The Game
In Red Phoenix of the Alchemists you are an alchemist competing with your peers. Players take turns performing experiments and trading knowledge in an effort to discover new and powerful ingredients and eventually win the game by discovering the formula for gold.
This game is unique thanks to the mechanic by which you discover and reproduce your formulas. Formulas are unique in each game, and the more formulas you discover, the more control you have. Will you share your knowledge in an effort to raise money or acquire another's formulas, or keep it to yourself, hoping that the items you can produce are powerful enough to protect you from the others' schemes?
But the experiments to produce formulas are risky. Formulas may indeed make items that protect you or harm your enemies, but they can also have damaging effects: causing fires, releasing noxious fumes or even summoning horrible monsters from other planes.
Every time you play is different, based on the ingredients and formulas discovered in that game. With 20 ingredients and items, there are an incredible number of possible formulas. Also included are 5 methods that allow you to draw from 64 results for these experiments, so you'll never know what to expect. You'll have to decide if you want to play it safe and move slowly, or forge ahead despite the danger, all the while keeping an eye on the other players around the table, making sure they're not planning to toss an acid flask in your direction.
